What started as a favour to a neighbour in 1957, quickly turned into a thriving business. Originally coming to Waubaushene, Ontario as a machinist, Ernie Ramler became one of the most skilled marine mechanics in the area – not by choice, but by demand from the boating community. Ernie enjoyed the personal connection between the engines and their owners, repairing marine engines for not only the residents and cottagers, but all of the marinas in town.

A spit of land between Waubaushene’s town bridge and the highway that runs through it eventually became Twin Bridge Marina. Ernie and his wife, Frieda, purchased the property in 1959 and developed the land with hundreds of truckloads of fill. Always resourceful, logs were salvaged from the lake to build a retaining wall, and trestle timbers were reclaimed from nearby Port McNichol to be used in the docks.

Together, Ernie and Frieda raised their family and worked side by side to build the marina into a local landmark. Despite flooding and drought and having the Ontario government expropriate more than half of the property to further extend the highway that runs through it, the marina continues to service the boating public.

In 1966, Twin Bridge Marina became the first Mercury Marine dealer in Waubaushene and has continued thriving for 50 years, servicing Mercury engines. Striving for excellence, Ernie and his son, Brian, attended the first certification courses to hone their skills. Brian attained Certified Mercury Marine Technician status in 1981 and Mercury Master Technician status in 1994 – a premier level of certification Mercury bestows on only a handful of technicians across Canada and the U.S.

By committing to annual training, Twin Bridge Marina’s staff keeps their skills fresh and up to date for the benefit of the customers. Along with current skills training, the marina maintains current Mercury software diagnostic tools to service the advanced engines of today and is recognized as a Mercury Premier Warranty facility.

Brian and his sister, Monica, have operated the marina together since 1990, keeping Twin Bridge in the family. They maintain one of the largest Mercury parts inventories in the area, so you can be sure to find the parts you need in stock. Twin Bridge Marina looks forward to keeping you on the water and enjoying your summer in this beautiful Waubaushene area.
