2011 Lund 1950 Tyee
Each boat built for fishermen by fishermen
By Matt Spencer
As a boat tester, it’s always nice when the boats are close to home or, better yet, delivered to your doorstep. However, sometimes travel is required. In the case of the 2011 Lund 1950 Tyee, it was over 1,500 miles to Minnesota’s lake country.
It’s one thing to have a slogan “The Ultimate Fishing Experience,” as Lund Boats does, but it’s another to live that mantra out every day. Each Lund is built for fishermen by fishermen and the 1950 Tyee is a big water fish boat for those looking for that big catch.
In fact, “Tyee” is the Chinook word for chief – and chief it certainly is. Its 19-foot, 8-inch length and 98-inch beam make for an impressive stature. Inside you’ll find every feature any hardcore fisherman would want.
But I think what most impressed me most about the 1950 Tyee was its ability to pull double duty. You’d think it safe to assume a fishing boat like this would have a very narrow and specific purpose. But Lund makes sure it’s well known that this is a family runabout.
And why not? With four interchangeable seats and two flip-up seats in the aft casting deck, there’s plenty of room for everyone. The marine MP3/CD stereo means you can rock tunes all day. Throw in options like bow filler cushions, a ski tow bar and a telescoping boarding ladder, and you’re set for the day.
