2011 Rinker Captiva 216 BR

With a lineup of over 20 models, it’s hard to believe Rinker Boats felt it was missing a segment of the market. What makes it even harder to believe is that this segment was the21-foot bowrider runabout. But that is precisely why Rinker launched its Captiva 216 BR, a boat that not only will fill a very important segment for them, but also represents a new design platform for the company’s lineup moving forward.

I first set my eyes on the Captiva 216 at the Toronto International Boat Show this past January. It was 9 a.m. on the show’s opening day, a half hour before the doors would open to the public, and there it sat under a sheet with various members of the media, Rinker dealers and some Rinker corporate brass milling about. Their excitement for this new model was not only noticeable, it was contagious. And when it came time for the big reveal it was obvious why.

There sat a 21-foot bowrider with symmetrical, flowing lines from bow to stern. It had a white hull and deck accented by a red stripe right at the rub rail. It was a seductive red that reminded me of lipstick on a beautiful woman. I say that because this really was a beautiful boat.
