A moderately priced boat with great accommodations and a well-designed hull

Just because you are shopping for a used boat with a modest budget doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the cruising lifestyle. If you’re looking for a used boat with a pricetag in the low 20s, you should be able to find a 1990 Four Winns 285 Vista in pretty good condition; one that shouldn’t require a big investment after the purchase.

Four Winns was ahead of many brands in terms of design for several of its models, as illustrated by the curved windshield and large horizontal ports in the hull of the 285V. 

The radar arch, also part of the boat’s overall design, is both attractive and functional.

Before we tested this particular Four Winns, we had the opportunity to talk to the owners about their likes and dislikes. First, they said they wish the top had been attached to the radar arch when it was updated. They also don’t particularly like the fact the swim platform has teak inlay, and they feel it is a little small. Finally, and more importantly, they pointed out that the design makes it awkward to travel from boat to boat in a raft.
