Check your bearings... everything's riding on them!
By Mike Milne
Your boat trailer’s bearings are always out of sight, but should never be out of mind. It may sound trite, but everything’s riding on them.
The marine environment is especially hard on trailer bearings. They get heated up en route to the launch ramp, then are submerged in water. They’re hauled out, left in the sun, then immersed again before heating back up on the way home.
The best way to avoid bearing problems that could damage your trailer or boat – or at least ruin a weekend – is to maintain them regularly, but also check and replace them as required. If you need a complete inspection and overhaul, spring is a good time to do it.
