Spanish for Island home, Islamorada is located between Miami and Key West. It is arguably the best destination for sport fishing in the Keys. So if you’re venturing down to Key West, you really should make a stop.
Since the 1970s, Mako has been hosting owners at their Mako Funament — a friendly fishing tournament — that is all about fun. Mako is synonymous with hardcore fishing and they’ve been building fibreglass fishing boats out of Florida for over 50 years.

Islamorada in the Florida Keys is really a varied place, in that you have inshore fishing opportunities and backcountry for game fish like snook, tarpin, sea trout, and shark. Then you have some of the best offshore fishing in the world from dolphinfish (which is mahi-mahi), sail fish, swordfish, wahu, and tunas. You can backcountry fish, or go 20, 25, 30 miles off shore for the big game fish.

You will often find a boat or two inside a Bass Pro, but never one like this. Right in the middle of the World Wide Sportsman is a replica of Ernest Hemingway’s “Pilar”. This wonderful piece of marine history is notable for its influence on the author while writing several works, including The Old Man and The Sea.
